Lesões causadas pela mosca-do-estábulo, stomoxys calcitrans em cães do Campus da Ufpa-Breves

| dc.description.abstract | The genus Stomoxys has 17 species, and of these only one occurs in the Americas, the species Stomoxys calcitrans, comonly known as stables fly, which is also found in different regions of the globe. Flies are very important insects on human and animal health, for being mechanical and physiological vectors of various pathogens. Despite these flies feed on preferably cows and horses, which normally attack legs and ventral abdomen, however, they can also be fed dogs frequently, especially in the region of the ears. These bites result in visible lesions typical at the ends of the ears with the presence of accumulated blood crusts. The parasitism of the stable flies is not limited to animals, because in places where there is a high population of this insect, can be observed flies attacking people who live or stay around where these flies swarm. This study aimed to carry out an account of cases of ear lesions caused by the stable-fly, Stomoxys calcitrans, in dogs that reside on the campus of UFPA- Breves, bringing knowledge on the subject for the academic community. Therefore, we analyzed macroscopically, a total of 19 dogs, being nine dogs from the campus UFPA-Breves and 10 dogs that were in the vicinity of the campus. We analyzed the degree of infestation of the stable-flies, S. calcitrans, on animals, whereas a slight infestation, were dogs with one to three fleas, moderate infestation with four to eight flies and a intense infestation with more than nine flies in the same animal. We also analyzed the degree of ear lesions in dogs caused by the bites of fleas, S. calcitrans, according to the approximate diameter of the lesions, being considered a minor injuries those lesions with a diameter less than 1 cm, moderates lesions with 1.1 to 3 cm and severe lesions with more than 3 cm in diameter. Of the 19 dogs examined, only one showed no infestation by stable-flies, S. calcitrans. All other animals were often being attacked by these insects, which shows a high prevalence in dogs in the study location. Morphological analysis of the collected flies allowed the diagnosis of S. calcitrans. The collected flies had mouthparts type chipper, well-developed and small palps. The degree of injury is directly correlated to the degree of infestation by flies of the stables. | |
| dc.description.resumo | O gênero Stomoxys possui 17 espécies, e destas apenas uma ocorre nas Américas, à espécie Stomoxys calcitrans, comumente conhecida como mosca-dos-estábulos, que também é encontrada nas mais diferentes regiões do globo. As moscas são insetos de grande importância na saúde humana e animal, por serem vetores mecânicos e fisiológicos de vários patógenos. Apesar dessas moscas se alimentarem com preferência de bovinos e equinos, onde normalmente atacam as pernas e região ventral do abdômen, no entanto, elas também podem se alimentar com frequência de cães, principalmente na região das orelhas. Essas picadas resultam em lesões aparentes típicas nas pontas das orelhas com a presença de crostas acumuladas de sangue. O parasitismo da mosca-dos-estábulos não está limitado aos animais, pois em locais onde há uma população elevada desse inseto, é possível observar a mosca atacando as pessoas que moram ou ficam por perto de onde essas moscas se aglomeram. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo realizar um relato dos casos de lesões auriculares causadas pela mosca-dos-estábulos, Stomoxys calcitrans, nos cães que residem no campus da UFPA-Breves, trazendo conhecimento sobre o assunto para a comunidade acadêmica. Para tanto, foram analisados, macroscopicamente, um total de 19 cães, sendo nove cães que frequentam o interior do campus da UFPA-Breves e 10 cães que se encontravam nos arredores do campus. Foram analisados o grau de infestação por moscas-dos-estábulos, S. calcitrans, nos animais, considerando uma infestação leve, os cães com uma a três moscas, infecção moderada com quatro a oito moscas e infecção intensa com mais de nove moscas no mesmo animal. Também analisamos o grau das lesões auriculares nos cães, causadas pelas picadas das moscas, S. calcitrans, de acordo com o diâmetro aproximado das mesmas, sendo consideradas lesões leves, aqueles com diâmetro menor que 1 cm, lesões moderadas com 1,1 a 3cm de diâmetro e lesões severas, a partir de 3cm de diâmetro. Dos 19 cães analisados, apenas um não apresentou infestação por moscas-dos-estábulos, S. calcitrans. Todos os demais animais estavam sendo frequentemente atacados por estes insetos, o que demonstra uma elevada prevalência nos cães, na localidade estudada. A análise morfológica das moscas coletadas permitiu o diagnóstico de S. calcitrans. As moscas coletadas possuíam aparelho bucal do tipo picador, bem desenvolvido e palpos pequenos. O grau das lesões, está diretamente correlacionado ao grau de infestação por moscas-dos-estábulos. | |
