dc.description.abstractThe study focuses on the literature directed at children and young people as a tool for readers training. It aims to verify its contribution for the formation of critical readers and reading comprehension. It brings together theories about the act of reading, alphabetism and literacy under the practical and social angles, with the referencial of Paulo Freire, Marisa Lajolo, Regina Zilberman, Ezequiel Theodoro da Silva, Maria Helena Martins and others. Presents a brief historical overview about literature and children's literature and examines its different facets. It introduces the Harry Potter series and its author, J. K. Rowling, using content synthesis. It reflects on the relation between such contents and the Brazilian social reality in our days. Assumes quali-quantitative explanatory character, and analyzes data collected through questionnaires answered by members of the Fã Clube Harry Potter Belém. Demonstrates, using the research Retratos da Leitura no Brasil as a secondary source, the positive effects of the Harry Potter series and other works of literature for children and young readers over the participants. Considers that the complex act of reading has the dealienating power to transform and activate consciousness; that it is one of the duties of the librarian to concern with the formation of critical readers; and that literature can be used as an instrument for this purpose. Finally, it concludes that enjoyable and thought-provoking readings can stimulate an individual to adopt the habit of reading.pt_BR
dc.description.resumoO estudo enfoca a literatura voltada para crianças e jovens como uma ferramenta para a formação de leitores. Objetiva verificar a sua contribuição para a formação de leitores críticos e para a compreensão escrita. Reúne teorias sobre o ato de ler, alfabetismo e letramento dos pontos de vista prático e social, com o referencial de Paulo Freire, Marisa Lajolo, Regina Zilberman, Ezequiel Theodoro da Silva, Maria Helena Martins e outros. Traça um breve panorama histórico da literatura e da literatura infanto-juvenil e analisa suas diferentes facetas. Apresenta a série Harry Potter e sua autora, J. K. Rowling, por meio de sínteses de conteúdo. Reflete sobre a relação entre tais conteúdos e a realidade social brasileira em nossos dias. Assume caráter quali-quantitativo explicativo, e analisa dados coletados através de questionários aplicados com membros do Fã-Clube Harry Potter Belém. Demonstra, tendo como fonte secundária a pesquisa Retratos da Leitura no Brasil, os efeitos positivos da série Harry Potter e de outras obras de literatura infanto-juvenil sobre os leitores participantes da pesquisa. Considera que o complexo ato da leitura tem poder transformador, ativador de consciências e desalienante; que é também dever do bibliotecário se preocupar com a formação de leitores críticos e que a literatura pode ser utilizada como um instrumento para tal intuito. Conclui, por fim, que leituras agradáveis e instigantes podem estimular o indivíduo a adotar o hábito da leitura.pt_BR
