The research was motivated by the growing concern about the effects of urban heat islands and the search for more sustainable and thermally comfortable solutions. Test specimens were produced according to the Marshall method, using CAP 50/70 petroleum asphalt cement, aggregates characterized according to ABNT standards, and an inorganic pigment based on iron oxides in red. The samples were subjected to thermal monitoring for thirty-seven consecutive days and, subsequently, to the Cantabro test, according to DNIT-ME 383/99. Statistical analysis, using Student's t-test, indicated no significant difference (p > 0.05) between the average temperatures; however, a slight tendency towards thermal reduction was observed in the pigmented samples, with slightly lower temperatures throughout the monitored period. From a mechanical standpoint, the use of pigment did not compromise the durability of the samples, keeping mass losses within the limits acceptable by the standard. It is concluded, therefore, that the use of inorganic pigments in asphalt mixtures presents promising potential to contribute to urban thermal comfort without significantly affecting the durability of the material.
