It is associated with mangroves in restinga areas and is used for medicinal purposes by communities surrounding this environment. However, the wood of this species has been studied little compared to other mangrove species. Therefore, this study aims to characterize the chemical and physical properties of C. erectus wood. The chemical characterization of the wood revealed average contents of ash (1.57%), lignin (26.80%), holocellulose (96.41%), and total extractives (17.72%). These results highlight the chemical particularities of C. erectus wood, with implications for its natural resistance and industrial use, especially in the context of carbonization and resistance to deterioration. The average basic density was 0.83 g/cm³, classifying it as a heavy wood. This characteristic indicates potential for charcoal production and high mechanical resistance. In the contraction, the values in the radial (4.48%), tangential (3.16%), and volumetric (16.8%) positions were high. The anisotropy coefficient (1.5%) indicates normal dimensional stability. These results highlight the technological potential of C. erectus wood for various applications.
