Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/6939Due to the growing concern that conventional polymers have caused to the environment, the search for alternatives to replace them with sustainable materials is one of the main concerns of today's society. A promising alternative is starch-based materials, which can bring good results due to their biodegradation capacity. In this context, the present study aims to obtain and characterize biodegradable composites made with short sisal fibers that have undergone chemical treatment and bleaching. Thermoplastic starch films were obtained using the solvent evaporation technique and evaluated in proportions of 5% and 10% of sisal fibers in relation to starch. Qualitative analyzes were carried out, such as visual analysis, and characterizations, such as thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to evaluate the thermal stability of the samples, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to evaluate the functional groups present in the films, thickness and mechanical properties to evaluate the modulus of elasticity, rupture stress and deformation. The results obtained made it possible to evaluate the influence of treated sisal fibers on the properties of thermoplastic starch films. In the visual aspect, all the films obtained showed optical transparency, in infrared spectroscopy with Fourier transform it is possible to identify the changes in the absorption bands due to the treatment. Improvements in the mechanical properties of the films were observed, such as increased tensile strength and stiffness. Furthermore, thermogravimetric analysis showed that films with sisal fibers presented greater thermal stability compared to the film without sisal fibers.
