The objective of this study is to conduct an integrative review of the literature on the performance of the dentist in the interprofessional team in ICU: oral hygiene as a measure of prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). This research is of a qualitative exploratory nature of the integrative literature review. As a result, twenty-nine (29) articles were obtained at the beginning of the research, eleven (11) of which belonged to the LILACS database, fifteen (15) to MEDLINE and four (4) to SCIELO. After applying the inclusion criteria, six (6) articles relevant to the research were obtained, of which one (1) belongs to SCIELO, three (3) to LILACS and two (2) to MEDLINE. Three thematic categories emerged from the analysis of the selected articles. The biofilm as triggering agent of VAP; Prevention measures to VAP, with emphasis on oral hygiene and The importance of the dentist in the interprofessional team as a reference in maintaining the oral health of inmates.
