One way to achieve this goal is to optimize traffic signalized intersections to promote safe travel with reduced delays. The main objective of this study was to analyze a traffic signalized intersection located between Avenida José Bonifácio and Travessa Antônio Baena in the city of Belém do Pará. To verify the traffic signal cycle and evaluate delays at each intersection approach, vehicle flow counts were performed using the SEMOB (Superintendence of Urban Mobility) equivalence factor, in addition to determining saturation flows, occupancy rates and queues of pent-up demand at traffic lights. These analyses followed the criteria established in the following technical documents: Technical Bulletin 31 of the Traffic Engineering Company (CET, 1977), Highway Capacity Manual (HCM, 2010) and Brazilian Traffic Signaling Manual (CONTRAN, 2022). After studying the intersection, it was possible to see that its current traffic light cycle (144 seconds) is not satisfactory; its approximations present an occupancy rate (above 90%), in addition to retention queues. To mitigate the problems identified, calculations of new traffic light cycles were carried out using two methods. The Webster method, widely applied in normal traffic conditions, presented an unfeasible value due to the excessively long cycle. In contrast, the CET method, specific for congested roads, generated a viable result, with a cycle of 174 seconds, ensuring greater efficiency and fluidity in traffic at the intersection.Acesso AbertoInterseção semaforizadaCiclo semafóricoFator de equivalênciaTraffic light intersectionTraffic light cycleEquivalence factorCNPQ::ENGENHARIAS::ENGENHARIA CIVILAnálise do ciclo semafórico de uma interseção em Belém-PaAnalysis of the traffic signal cycle at an intersection in BelémTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - MonografiaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
