This qualitative, descriptive study employed a literature review alongside an online questionnaire administered to dance teachers practicing in Belém and its metropolitan region in the state of Pará, Brazil. The theoretical framework was grounded in the principles of psychomotricity, child motor development, and the intersection between dance and developmental processes. Data were examined using categorical thematic content analysis. Findings indicate that the majority of teachers hold a comprehensive understanding of psychomotricity as an integrative science spanning motor, affective, and cognitive domains, thereby recognizing dance as an indispensable pedagogical tool for child development. However, a notable gap in initial teacher education emerged, with participants consistently reporting superficial coverage of the topic during their undergraduate coursework, a deficiency that generated marked discrepancies both in the depth of their responses and in their practical application of psychomotor concepts within classroom settings. The findings suggest that, although teachers acknowledge the potential of dance to foster children's psychomotor growth, preservice training programs have yet to adequately address the multifaceted demands of professional practice.
