And biodiesel is one of these alternatives presented to the world as well as renewable. It emits lower concentrations of gaseous pollutants when compared with petroleum diesel, when produced by means of plant sources it contributes with a significant portion to remove the carbon dioxide, considering that the plants absorb the same through photosynthesis. The objective of this work was to extract the buriti oil by means of soxhlet to study the viability of biodiesel synthesis through basic catalysis using sodium hydroxide as a homogeneous catalyst.
