Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/7893The fish of the Epinephelidae family, commonly known as groupers, are species of great ecological and economic importance, and are relevant to both marine conservation and commercial fishing. The study of the mitogenomes of these species is essential for understanding the genetic diversity of the group, as well as their evolution and adaptation to different marine environments. In this context, this study focused on analyzing the mitogenomes of the species Epinephelus morio (red grouper) and Mycteroperca interstitialis (yellowmouth grouper) of the Epinephelidae family. The sequenced mitogenomes showed lengths of 16,418 bp and 17,455 bp, respectively, and contained 37 mitochondrial genes, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNAs, and 2 rRNAs, along with a non-coding control region. The organization and gene order observed are consistent with the pattern found in other species of the family and in most teleost fish. Both mitogenomes showed a similar nucleotide composition, with minor variations in nucleotide content. Analysis of codon usage and gene structure showed similarities with other species in the family. The phylogenetic tree generated on the basis of the 13 protein-coding genes revealed close relationships among E. morio and other species of the same family; however, there were some inconsistencies in the relationships among genera, due to arrangements with paraphyletic patterns in some groups.
