Acesso em:https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8372The slasher horror genre has been gaining significant prominence; therefore, it becomes essential to understand the messages and ideologies that films of this genre convey. With this in mind, this work aims to highlight aspects of the film Divino Assassino where the concepts of society, class, religion, and psychology create a debate about extremist systems. This is based on the idea that there are two types of horror: one considered conservative and another more concerned with the role of society. The research spans these two extremes of the slasher genre, from classic filmmakers such as Dario Argento, John Carpenter, Robin Hardy, and Andrzej Z˙uławski, to contemporary directors like Jordan Peele, Ti West, Ari Aster, and Zach Cregger. Field research was conducted via an application, along with analysis of videos on the subject. Finally, Jung’s psychoanalysis of the shadow was applied to describe the archetypes of the characters. It was observed that the great popularity of older films often carried a more con- servative ideal regarding youth, while more recent productions explore themes with an anti-moralistic perspective and a socially conscious lens. Thus, Divino Assassino embraces the approach of modern films.
