Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9907This course work results from research on the Pretinhos of São Benedito, focusing on the memories of the elderly woman and of children during the Festivity of São Benedito in Fernandes Belo, Pará. Its main objective is to analyze the narratives of vow-making children and an elderly woman in the Festivity of São Benedito in the community of Fernandes Belo, seeking to understand the representations of the Pretinhos of São Benedito for the children and the reformulations that have taken place in the tradition, from the perspective of an elder. For its construction, the interactional method was used, which considers correlations between various factors and social actors, understanding that the construction of knowledge occurs through interactions. A qualitative approach was adopted. The research techniques used for data generation were semi-structured interviews with a journalistic format and scripts, observation, audio recording, and photographic records. The results obtained reveal that both the children and the elderly woman are immersed in this context of vows stemming from family tradition. However, for the children, being a vow-maker carries meanings of devotion, fun, celebration, and admiration; they create their own children's cultures within the tradition. From the narratives of the elderly woman, it is inferred that there have been transformations in the configurations of the tradition, regarding the leading of the Pretinhos to the church and the preparation of the paint used to characterize the Pretinhos.
