Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/7898The Education of Young, Adult and Elderly People (EJAI) is a modality of basic education teaching, offered to people over the age of fifteen, with a history of denial of rights throughout their lives, who did not have access to or did not complete their studies. Thus, the article aims to identify the challenges faced by EJAI students to return, remain and successfully complete the schooling process. The text is the result of the Teaching Internship in EJAI, carried out in the eighth semester, of the Pedagogy Course, at the Federal University of Pará / Campus Castanhal, which made it possible to ensure the relationship between theory and practice in academic training, as well as to collect and report the experiences in EJAI, in a public elementary school located in a community in the city of Santa Izabel do Pará. In this sense, in the theoretical framework, we dialogue with Freire (1996), Arroyo (2005), Nascimento (2022), Silva et al (2022), with the legal frameworks, among others. The qualitative approach guided the work and the methodology involved the collection of bibliographic data, qualitative field research, observation and teaching. The results show that the great challenge of EJAI students begins with access, but also with permanence in school, for several reasons, such as: displacement; work; safety; among others. Thus, the results point to the role and the need for the relevance of effective public and educational policies capable of guaranteeing the right, access and permanence in school, since it is the duty of the State to guarantee a public, free, inclusive, referenced quality education, as this absence compromises the lives of people, who have historically had their rights to education denied and are part of social groups marked by exclusion.
