For this, a school was chosen located in the urban area of the municipality of Abaetetuba, which works with elementary school. The work was developed through bibliographical research, based on some authors of the area and an intervention plan carried out in the class. The use of Sousa's English story allows the student to understand and interpret the texts read independently within the Amazonian scenario and leads the teacher to realize the relevance of developing independent, critical and reflexive readers.
