The National Forest of Caxiuanã is located in the municipality of Melgaço in the Northeast of the State of Pará and has an area of 322,400.00 hectares. It was created in 1961. Its geographical coordinates are: latitude 1º 43 'S, longitude 51º 32' W. In FLONA de Caxiuanã the total annual rainfall is 2045.8 mm, with the month of April being the rainiest, with monthly accumulation of 313.8 mm, while in the driest month (September), the monthly precipitation is 40.8 mm according to the precipitation climatology of the period from 1981 to 2016.The CS615 sensor was used for analysis of the instantaneous infiltration rate and soil moisture from the months of October 2016 and November 2017. The ESECAFLOR experiment is a simulation of drought in the forest to evaluate the impact of this prolonged drought on the water and carbon dioxide fluxes in an Amazon forest, investigating the exclusion of soil water in the forest cycle and the changes caused by the event.
