Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9705With industrialization and urban expansion, society has increasingly adopted unsustainable consumption patterns, resulting in a growing generation of solid waste generation in a disorganized manner and disposed of improperly. This situation has led to serious environmental and public health problems, especially considering that many Brazilian municipalities still dispose of solid waste in open dumps, in violation of the National Solid Waste Policy (Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos – PNRS), established by Law No. 12,305 of August 2, 2010, which expressly prohibits the open dumping of solid waste in Brazil. The present study aimed to analyze the dynamics and socio-environmental impacts of the open dump area in the municipality of Tucuruí, Pará, as well as to implement environmental education and sanitary guidance actions as a strategy to mitigate this problem. To this end, a questionnaire was applied as the main research instrument, and the collected data were compiled to support the analysis, characterizing an applied, exploratory study with a qualitative approach. The results revealed several socio-environmental impacts, including poor quality of life and well-being among the families who live and work in the area, as well as contamination of the soil, atmospheric environment, and water resources in the surrounding area. Based on these findings, environmental education and sanitary guidance actions were developed for the local population.
