This research, fundamentally linked to the experiences of a person who, throughout their experiences, cultivated their knowledge based on the practice of building boats, aimed to investigate the mathematical knowledge mobilized by this professional and its applicability in the profession, as well as the relationships between school mathematics and mathematics inherited from previous generations resulting from this professional practice. The research is qualitative in nature and was carried out in a shipyard in the city, being this done through interviews with the master carpenter, and observations during the construction of the vessels. Therefore, it is understood that the importance of this research lies in the fact that it instigates a closer look at how arithmetic, geometric, algebraic, length, volume and capacity measures, among others, are constructed and disseminated in cultures whose form of seeing and understanding the mathematical language is different from that taught in educational institutions, but which promotes a unique knowledge with meaning and objectivities proper to the social, cultural and historical environment of a given social group depending on their needs. As a result, the perception that such mathematical knowledge of the master carpenter is conceived from generation to generation, resulting from years of practice dedicated to shipbuilding and mainly from the human capacity to learn through its perception of the world, with its interaction with their social context and with each other, in order to change the environment in which they live.
