There are different methods for obtaining it, however, most of these use high-cost, potentially toxic chemical reagents that cause damage to the environment and biological systems. For this reason, obtaining nanoparticles through “green” methods, which use agents that plant resource reducing agents, has emerged as an alternative to conventional syntheses. Therefore, this study aimed to carry out a green synthesis of silver nanoparticles, using the essential oil of the species Piper divaricatum as a reducing agent for metallic ions. For the synthesis, different volumes of essential oil were used, with AgNO3 as a precursor for the formation of nanoparticles. The samples obtained were characterized by spectroscopy in the ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) region shortly after they were synthesized at time zero (t0) and over 30, 60, 90 and 120 days, where the maximum intensities of the surface plasmonic resonance band (SPR) in an interval of 400 to 500 nm, evidencing the formation of AgNPs. The results were satisfactory for obtaining AgNPs, highlighting the referent oil as a viable, low-cost matrix, and as an environmentally correct alternative to harmful reducing agents.
