Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/5076Obesity and overweight are considered serious global public health problems of increasing prevalence. Thus, for the control of weight and the search to follow standards of corporal beauty, imposed by the media, especially in women's magazines, the great majority of the women undergo the diets disclosed in nonscientific magazines. In this sense, the objective of the study was to analyze the nutritional composition of diets for weight loss and to compare with the nutritional recommendations. It consisted of a cross sectional descriptive study with diets for weight loss published in non scientific magazines of national circulation directed to the female audience. Printed magazines were available and available on the digital platform GoRead Digital Magazines during the month of April 2018. As selection criteria, the diets should contain: indicative terms of weight loss on the cover of the journal or in the title of the article, a diet with no minimum five meals and the quantity of each item to be consumed. Dietary Reference Intakes DRIs and World Health Organization (2003) were used for the analysis of the energy, macronutrients and fiber values for women aged 19 years to 55 years. To analyze the nutritional composition, the nutritional assessment software AVANUTRI 4.0 was used. Statistical Packs for Social Sciences (SPSS, IBM, USA) version 20.0 was used for statistical analysis. Of all the nonscientific journals published in April, 17 journals met the criteria of the research. The average energy value of the analyzed diets was 1,471.2 Kcal, carbohydrates 43.4%, proteins 24.3%, lipids 32.3% and 16.6 grams of fiber. The analyzed diets presented energetic and carbohydrate value below the recommendation, adequate amount of proteins and lipids and low amount of fiber, being observed that the adhesion to these diets can compromise the nutritional state and are not appropriate for healthy weight loss, representing risk to people who are willing to follow them. In addition, a diet considered adequate should meet the nutritional needs of the individual.
