These aspects justify a detailed analysis of the results obtained in a Metropolitan Hospital of Urgency and Emergency throughout their incipient experience in this type of procedure. The aim of this paper is to present the results of videolaparoscopic procedures obtained in a series of trauma abdominal cases performed in the Metropolitan Hospital of Urgency and Emergency of Belém-Pará Brazil during the period June 2006 to June 2010. Data were collected from medical records of patients, who were managed initially by video surgery during the period in question, totalizing 34 (100%) records. In 94% of cases, the VL was indicated for diagnosis. Of all patients undergoing VL, in 29.4% of surgeries, there was conversion to laparotomy, while 70.6% were in exclusive management by laparoscopic surgery. Of the total cases handled exclusively by VL, 14 (58.4%) resulted in therapeutic videolaparoscopies (TVL), 6 (25%) negative videolaparoscopies (NVL) and in 4 (16.6%) in nontherapeutic videolaparoscopies (VLNT). 70.6% of laparotomies were avoided. Finally, VL when well-indicated, may be used as diagnostic and/or therapeutic method, being able to avoid unnecessary laparotomy. It is necessary prospective randomized trials and determination of a standardization of procedures and videosurgery techniques, to optimize the management of this method in the approach of abdominal trauma.Acesso AbertoVideolaparoscopiaTraumaAbdominalIaparoscopiaVideolaparoscopyTraumaAbdominalIaparoscopyCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::MEDICINAVideolaparoscopia no manejo de pacientes portadores de trauma abdominal atendidos no Hospital Metropolitano de Urgência e Emergência no período de junho de 2006 a junho de 2010Trabalho de Curso - Graduação - Monografia
