Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9741This study analyzes the presence of Mathematics in the construction of the curimbó, a traditional drum of carimbó, a cultural manifestation from the Amazon region, through an ethnomathematical approach. The research aims to identify the mathematical elements implicit in traditional practices, such as geometric shapes, measurements, proportions, and symmetries, while valuing the knowledge of local masters. The methodology is qualitative, based on bibliographic research, interviews, and observation of the stages of instrument making, with analytical procedures that approximate ethnographic studies. The results show that the knowledge applied in the construction of the curimbó involves relevant mathematical reasoning that can be used as pedagogical strategies for teaching Mathematics in a contextualized way. Equally important, they highlight a set of ancestral knowledge and practices of a people who organize their social life around the practice of carimbó. Therefore, Mathematics is essential in the production of the curimbó, as it establishes a bridge between local knowledge and scientific knowledge.
