Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9691This study discusses composting as a pedagogical practice in Geography teaching, highlighting its contribution to environmental education and to the development of students’ socio-environ-mental awareness. The research was carried out through the activities of the extension project Ecological Trails, developed at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), Ananindeua Campus, with the participation of 6th-grade elementary school students from Padre Pietro Gerosa School. The objective of the research was to analyze how composting practices can contribute to the teaching-learning process and to the construction of environmental awareness within the school environment. Methodologically, the research is characterized as qualitative and descriptive, using direct observation, descriptive records, and photographic records as data collection pro-cedures. The activities involved composting and vermicomposting practices, enabling students to understand the reuse of organic waste and the relationship between society and nature. The results showed that the practice contributed significantly to students’ learning, encouraging par-ticipation, the development of critical thinking, and the understanding of environmental issues present in everyday life. Furthermore, the study highlighted the strengthening of Geographic Education through the articulation between theory and practice, allowing students to develop a more critical understanding of the lived space.
