Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8404This study analyzes the socio-environmental impacts of the canalization of the Maguari-Açu River, in Ananindeua (PA), Brazil. Using a qualitative approach, the research was based on bibliographic review, cartographic analysis, and fieldwork with interviews and direct observation. The results indicate that, although the intervention improved urban mobility and rainwater drainage, it also caused significant environmental damage, such as the removal of riparian vegetation, loss of biodiversity, and alteration of the river’s natural course. Furthermore, the study revealed the absence of public participation in the decision-making process, as well as the advance of real estate speculation in the region.
