In most cases, well zoning is performed by visual geological description of cores. Unfortunately, due to economic and technical reasons the coring operations are not realized in all wells of a oil field, but, all wells are logged by wireline or LWD. Formation evaluation needs information about well zoning, principally, lithologic identification of reservoir rocks. In many practical situations, visual well interpretation shows only the location of reservoir rocks and shale and do not discriminate among reservoir lithologies, this information is important for hydrocarbon reserve calculation. A classic method for lithologic identification using wireline logs is the M-N plot, which use the physics properties of the main mineral in the rock matrix. Nevertheless, the M-N plot needs a previous log interpretation, that depends on human expertise, which prevents its use in real time to help in drilling operations of horizontal wells. In this work we show an intelligent algorithm based in fuzzy C-means able to perform an automatic well zoning by interpretating a z-plot with M, N parameters and natural gamma ray log.
