Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9997This article examines how the memory of the Cabanagem was politically used in Pará between certain milestones, such as 1970 (the naming of the Cabanagem Palace) and 1985 (the 150th anniversary of the Cabanagem). The research shows that during the transition from dictatorship to redemocratization, political agents transformed the image of the Cabanagem – previously remembered negatively – into a symbol of popular struggle and regional identity, using this memory to strengthen their legitimacy and get closer to the population.
