This growing immersion has directly affected children, who, with their families' consent, have replaced interactive play and physical toys with the constant use of technological devices, primarily smartphones. Based on this observation, we sought to investigate the integration of digital technologies into the teaching and learning process of students at a municipal public school in Bragança, Pará. This study aimed to analyze the impacts that digital technology use can have on the education of school-age children. Methodologically, the research is grounded in a qualitative, explanatory field approach. A literature review was conducted using articles and book chapters relevant to the topic. Field research took place at the E.M.E.I.F Profª. América Ramos Lobão da Silveira in Bragança, Pará, between November 15 and 19, 2025. The main subjects were four third-grade elementary school students and their parents or guardians. Data collection involved a discussion group with the parents, guardians, and students, as well as an interview with the class teacher. The findings indicate that children frequently use digital technologies most commonly smartphones for both study and entertainment. However, it was observed that they do not use these devices to seek out educational games, enriching materials, or research for school assignments; their usage is predominantly driven by entertainment. Furthermore, while some parents monitor their children's online activities, others are completely unaware of what their children access in the digital world. Unmonitored access to certain websites and links can severely harm a child's development, negatively impacting the teaching and learning process and often leading to poor academic performance. Therefore, we emphasize that parents must be mindful of the early introduction of digital devices into their children's lives. If these devices are used, it is crucial to carefully monitor the frequency of use, given the numerous negative effects, as previously highlighted, that can severely impact a child's academic performance.
