Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/3020On the night of August 31, 2017, servers and collaborators of the sesquicentenary Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (MPEG) were the first to share in social networks an alert: in less than 40 days, the oldest scientific institution in the Amazon would close, as a consequence of the budget cuts and contingencies that reached the area of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil that year. In the streets and social networks, mobilization was immediate and involved civil society, the press and the political class. The movement reached its apex on September 17, 2017, with ten thousand people participating in a symbolic embrace at the Museu Emílio Goeldi. Observing the mobilization of users in social networks, this article presents the results of quantitative and qualitative content analysis conducted on the official page of the Museu Goeldi on Facebook, considering the publications related to the possible closure of the institution. In September 2017, there were 13 posts with at least 3,726 reactions (likes or emoticons), 3,073 shares, 253 comments and 337 evaluations with 93 public messages.
