Acesso em:https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9985This work addresses the teaching of Portuguese as a Second Language for the Deaf (PLSS), analyzing the design of the Didactic Unit (Courtillon, 2003; Lemeunier, 2006; Laurens, 2013) and its importance in the language teaching-learning process. The history of deaf education in Brazil, which began with the founding of the National Institute for Deaf Education (INES) in 1857, is presented as a relevant historical context. The methodologies used over time are highlighted, from traditional methods to the Communicative Approach (CA), which prioritizes the learner's communicative competence in real situations. The research is based on the adaptation of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages(CEFR) to PLSS, aiming to promote more contextualized and meaningful teaching. The goal is to investigate theeffectiveness of the Didactic Unit design for teaching Portuguese as a Second Language to theDeaf. For this purpose, two didactic units were developed: the first focused on the poetry genre,and the second on digital genres. The methodology adopted was a qualitative case study, allowing for an analysis of the experience of designing and implementing the didactic units, highlighting the importance of instructional planning that considers the particularities of deaf learners.
