The research adopts a qualitative approach grounded in autoethnography, articulating personal narratives, affective memories, visual records, and oral testimonies to reflect on gender disputes, processes of invisibilization, and forms of resistance that permeate the presence of the Baliza across different Amazonian territories. The study draws on theoretical references such as Elizeu Corrêa, Judith Butler, Giuliano Andreoli, Paulo Freire, and Richard Schechner, establishing dialogues with the fields of performativity, spectacularity, gender studies, memory, and critical education. The writing, consciously autoethnographic, incorporates poems, narrative variations, and expressive strategies as means of denouncing silences and affirming the Baliza’s body as a locus of knowledge production. The analytical path encompasses the historical emergence of bands and fanfares, the institutionalization of the Baliza figure and the mechanisms of control that shape it, and an autoethnographic narrative that highlights experiences of harassment, institutional homophobia, structural precarization, as well as achievements, affections, and acts of insubordination. The results point to the need to reposition the Baliza as an active agent in constructing meanings for dance, competitions, and art education itself, recognizing it as a legitimate expression of Amazonian popular culture. More than concluding a trajectory, this work opens pathways for other Balizas to narrate their stories, dispute decision-making spaces, and transform structures that remain exclusionary.
