Specifically, it sought to understand the trajectories of women farmers, characterize their participation in productive and social spaces, and identify community organization strategies. A qualitative approach was adopted, based on a literature review, semi-structured interviews with women farmers, observation of productive units, and descriptive analysis of the collected data. The findings revealed that women play a central role in the management of agroecosystems by planning agricultural production, managing home gardens, and marketing agricultural surplus, although their work continues to be marked by invisibility, work overload, and gender inequalities. The study also showed that agroecological home gardens are strategic spaces for the conservation of agrobiodiversity, the promotion of food security, income generation, and the transmission of traditional knowledge, supported by agroecological practices and strong community organization. The findings indicate that strengthening women's autonomy depends on greater social recognition of their work, the expansion of public policies, and the promotion of women's participation in decision-making and rural territorial governance. This study contributes to the debate on gender, agroecology, and family farming in the Amazon by highlighting women's management as a key element in promoting sustainability, valuing local knowledge, and fostering sustainable rural development in island territories.
