Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8979This research aims to understand the experiences of student mothers enrolled in the Portuguese Language program at the Federal University of Pará, Bragança Campus, by analyzing the challenges faced by these women in balancing motherhood and academic life. Thus, this study proposes a discourse analysis based on semi-structured interviews with students from the Portuguese Language program, in order to comprehend the meanings constructed in their statements and the institutional conditions that shape their academic trajectories. In this regard, the study focuses on the structural and pedagogical difficulties that directly affect these students’ permanence in higher education, such as the lack of adequate childcare spaces, the inflexibility of supervised internships, and the absence of supportive policies for university mothers. Accordingly, three analytical categories are adopted: institutional structure, teaching and learning, and maternal experiences within the university. The theoretical framework is grounded in Discourse Analysis (Orlandi, 2012; Brandão, 2012), as well as in the studies of Pessanha (2023) and Vieira, Souza, and Rocha (2019) on motherhood in higher education. Therefore, it can be observed that student mothers develop strategies of resistance in the face of adversity, yet they continue to encounter a university unprepared to accommodate them.
