The chemical and physical properties of Rare Earths play a fundamental role in the industry of high-tech products, making the availability of these elements of extreme importance for technological advancement, linked to the country's economy. Rare Earths are found in monazite, bastnasite, xenotime and ionic adsorption clays. According to the occurrence of lanthanide contraction, the Rare Lands have great chemical and physical similarity, causing difficulty in separating and obtaining the lanthanide elements in individual form. China has become the largest producer of rare earths in recent decades, reaching 97% of world production. Many countries stopped producing and became dependent on Chinese exports. Brazil shows itself at international levels with a territory rich in these elements, exposing abundant amounts in mineral reserves in various regions of the country. However, there is a lack of investment in the separation / purification of rare earth elements in the country. The advancement of new technologies assists in the development of laboratory techniques for exploring the mineralogical production chain. Brazil has little knowledge applied to rare earths, making it not worth mentioning for the exploration, separation and production of this segment. One of the great challenges of the Rare Lands production chain is the search for new economically viable extraction methods that do not harm the environment. This bibliographic review intends to address the mineralogical and chemical aspects of the neodymium element in the context of rare earths and discuss the technological challenges that exist in the extraction processes of this element, focusing on the use of green technologies to compose the Rare Earth production chain.
