The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of bleaching toothpaste containing activated carbon on the surface roughness and microhardness of nanoparticulate composite resin. Thirty specimens were made with Filtek Z350XT nanoparticulate composite (3M ESPE, St Paul, USA) in color A2, distributed in 3 groups (n = 10), according to the toothpaste to be used. For G1 conventional toothpaste (nonwhitening) - Colgate® Maximum Protection, for G2 whitening toothpaste - Colgate® Luminous White and for G3 toothpaste containing activated carbon - Colgate® Luminous White Activated Carbon. The following materials were used for brushing: Oral-B Electric Toothbrush - Vitality Precision Clean (Oral B, Schwalbacham Taunus, Germany); toothpaste selected for each group; and distilled water. The surface roughness and microhardness analyze were performed on the same specimen (before and after). The data obtained were submitted to verification of normality through the Shapiro-Wilk test (p<0.05). A decrease in microhardness values was observed in relation to the times T0 and T1 in groups G2 and G3; and increased roughness in relation to time T0 and T1 in groups G2 and G3.
