The study involved high school students who study at the Escola Municipal de Ensino Fundamental Martinho Pinheiro located in the community of Japiim Grande, municipality of Limoeiro do Ajuru-Pa. The research is based on a qualitative approach, and is within action research. The main question of the study was: how can popular knowledge contribute to the learning of botany content by high school students in a rural school? The following objectives were sought: to investigate the importance of relationships between the teaching of botany and the students' popular knowledge acquired in their family and social life; to analyze the importance of the dialogue between popular knowledge and formal curriculum for Biology teaching; to develop activities that promote the articulation of students' knowledge with the formal Biology curriculum of high school, with regard to botany content.
