Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10337This work presents research on the Youth and Adult Education within the process of the Portuguese Language teaching-learning process, in the educational context of the Concórdia do Pará. The aim was to understand how takes place lesson planning and to identify pedagogical and linguistic practices employed in teaching Portuguese in Young and Adult Education. The theoretical reference was based on the contributions of Freire (1967), Kleiman (2012) and Garcia and Silva (2018). The methodology, a qualitative approach, used observation, interviews, and document analysis. The results indicate that Portuguese language teaching search articulate the contents to students' daily, valuing the social use of language through everyday texts, generating themes, and practices of welcoming and listening. The interdisciplinary work in projects where the teaching of the Portuguese language is integrated with other subjects stands out. The interviews revealed that when the school value students' experiences and their linguistic, cultural, and social background, they contribute to them taking ownership of their own stories. It is concluded that the teaching of Portuguese in the 3rd and 4th stage classes of EJA (Youth and Adult Education) investigated is moving towards practices that understand language as an instrument of Citizen and social transformation.
