Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9331This study examines how Afro-Brazilian knowledge is represented in the processes of Knowledge Organization and Knowledge Representation within the Digital Library of Monographs of the Federal University of Pará (BDM-UFPA). It assumes that knowledge organization systems are not neutral, but rather developed over time based on conceptual frameworks that shape what is highlighted or left aside in information systems. The discussion is grounded in authors from the field of Knowledge Organization, addressing concepts such as representation “of” and representation “about,” ethnoknowledge, ethics of classification, and cultural hospitality. The research is qualitative, exploratory, and documentary in nature, with the corpus consisting of monographs that address Afro-Brazilian culture. Through the content analysis of the records retrieved from BDM-UFPA, differences were identified in the way themes are represented. This is evidenced by the greater presence of broader terms, such as “Afro-Brazilian” and “ancestry,” rather than more specific terms, such as “Candomblé” and “Umbanda”.
