The discovery of High Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) depicts the association of three or more drugs resulting in a significant reduction in the mortality rate of patients affected by HIV. However, it has been detected that HAART favors hematological and metabolic alterations, not yet fully clarified. Some of these metabolic modifications may be related to the gene expression of ATP citrate lyase (ACLY), since the ACLY enzyme, encoded by this gene, is directly related to lipid and cholesterol biosynthesis, as in some recent studies hematopoiesis.
