In the search for cellular mechanisms that justify such progression, the investigation of the role of stem cells and their relationship with cancer cells has gained prominence in tumor biology, with studies relating their participation in the growth, progression and recurrence of tumors. To analyze the presence of stem cells, the literature points out some important biomarkers, such as SOX-2, NANOG and OCT4, which are considered to be critical regulators of embryonic self-renewal and pluripotency capable of mediating tumor initiation, proliferation and differentiation. Thus, the aim of this study is to analyze, using immunohistochemistry, the expression of proteins related to the activity of stem cells in ameloblastoma. Ameloblastoma samples showed statistically significant marking of biomarkers when compared with dentigerous cyst and dental follicle (p <0.001), with a correlation of the immunostained area of OCT4 and SOX-2 proteins in ameloblastoma neoplastic cells (r = 0.4544), as well as a positive linear relationship between OCT4 and SOX-2 staining in ameloblastoma neoplastic cells (r² = 0.2065).
