Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8096This article is the result of research carried out with women shellfish gatherers in the municipality of São João de Pirabas, with the aim of investigating and understanding the work carried out by these women in this municipality, located in the northeastern region of Pará, in the Salgado micro-region. The study, in addition to discussing the importance of this craft and the invisibility of these women over the years, also addresses the gender relationship present in artisanal fishing and, finally, the relevance of this historiographical work for history teaching in the municipality. The method used was field research with a qualitative approach. Five shellfish gatherers participated in the research. The instruments used to collect data were observation and interviews with semi-structured questions. I believe that this work has made it possible to understand the lives of these women and their work, recognizing their importance as workers and as women who play a fundamental role in the municipality’s economy.
