It consists of a process in which the blood passes through an "artificial kidney" constituted by a semipermeable membrane that by diffusion allows the removal of undesirable substances and the supply with indispensable elements. Hemodialysis depends on a direct access to the central venous system that can be done by arteriovenous fistula or a central venous catheter (CVC), of short or long duration. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the use of the long-term central venous catheter in hemodialysis patients at Ophir Loyola Hospital and Monteiro Leite Hemodialysis Center. CAUSES AND METHOD: A descriptive study was conducted in patients undergoing hemodialysis using a long-term central venous catheter, CTDL and / or CTLI, at Ophir Loyola Hospital and Monteiro Leite Hemodialysis Center, Belém-PA, Brazil. period from July 29, 2016 to July 29, 2017. RESULTS: We identified 33 patients with CVCLP, the majority with CTDL use, with 87.10%. There was a predominance of females, the mean age found was 60.94 years. Diabetic nephropathy corresponded to the main etiology of Hemodialysis. Failure of the AVF was the main indication for the implantation of CVCLP, with 51.61%. The VJIE was the main anatomical site of implantation, with 35.48%. The mean length of stay of the CVCLP was 379.55 days. Catheter infection was identified as the main cause of CVCLP withdrawal, with 87.50%. CONCLUSION: In the sample studied, the majority of patients had hemodialysis access to arteriovenous fistula, the majority of which were male, with type 2 diabetes mellitus as the main comorbidity. Of the patients with central venous catheter the majority is female, presents as a model of CDL tunable, the CTDL, the VJIE, as the main place of implantation. The mean length of stay of the CVCLP was 379.55 days, and the main indication of use was the failure of the AVF, with the main complication being CVCLP infection.
