Through qualitative methodology and detailed textual analysis, articulated with frameworks of necropolitics (Mbembe) and postcolonial studies (Spivak), the study reveals three fundamental dimensions in the work: drought as a power device that produces disposable lives; strategies of everyday resistance that reaffirm humanity in the face of abandonment; and the universalization of the Cape Verdean experience through mythical resources and transculturated language. The study demonstrates how Lopes not only critiques state negligence but also celebrates the capacity for cultural re-existence, transforming pain into narrative power. The article contributes to African literary studies by offering an updated reading of the work, situating it within the broader dialogue of Global South literatures and highlighting its relevance for thinking about epistemic justice and human rights. It concludes that literature thus operates as a privileged space for denunciation and rehumanization, capable of addressing the present with ethical and political force.
