Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9282This paper addresses access to water as a socio-environmental issue in Amazonian riverside communities, considering the inequalities that persist even in regions marked by water abundance. The study defines as its empirical focus Combu Island, located in the insular region of Belém (PA), with emphasis on water supply conditions and their implications for the water security of the local riverside population, considering basic sanitation as an associated contextual dimension. The research aims to analyze water access conditions on the island, problematizing the paradox between regional water abundance and precarious supply, as well as discussing the potential of rainwater harvesting as a socially and environmentally relevant alternative for the studied context. From a methodological perspective, an exploratory and descriptive approach is adopted, based on bibliographic review, analysis of institutional documents, systematization of secondary data, and interpretation of visual records used to support the analysis of the empirical context. The results show that, despite Combu Island’s geographic proximity to the urban center of Belém, structural weaknesses in water supply remain, associated with socio-environmental vulnerability.
