Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/3113The objective of the present study was to elaborate a chart of environmental vulnerability of the West Coastal Zone of Salgado Paraense considering the natural coastal processes and those of anthropic influence that interfere in the balance of this region. The growing increase in deforested areas and the expansion of disorderly occupation indicate the need for studies on the areas most vulnerable to potential environmental impacts, in order to assist regional planning. Geoprocessing tools were used to analyze the behavior of the terrain from the integration of various specialized information in the form of thematic maps (geology, geomorphology, pedology, vegetation and land use and occupation), in a Geographic Information System (GIS). The distribution of the different classes of vulnerability was determined from modeling by map algebra, in which the allocation of relative weights between themes was adopted to quantitatively analyze how much each variable influences susceptibility to an environmental impact, using the methodology of the Hierarchical Analytical Process (AHP) and the crossing of different maps and thematic maps by map algebra. In addition to the letter of environmental vulnerability, letters of vegetation cover, land use and occupation and geomorphology were also prepared in order to assess the characteristics of the land with greater and less susceptibility to changes. Finally, the results obtained show that about 28.5% of the area corresponds to very high to high vulnerability classes. These classes are associated with shallow soils, areas of greater dissection, declivity and mainly with significant human activities, such as the concentration of urban areas and the extraction of sand. These areas call for priority attention in order to determine appropriate measures for sustainable development and the restructuring of the region's environments, seeking to minimize and avoid environmental impacts in order to reduce environmental, social and economic losses.
