Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8183This Final Course Work (TCC) aims to investigate the mathematical knowledge mobilized in the handling of fishing instruments used by artisanal fishermen from the Novo Umirinzal community, in the Boa Vista district, Quatipuru municipality (PA). The research is of a basic qualitative nature, involving a Case Study and application of an interview script with semi-structured questions. Four artisanal fishermen from the aforementioned community, Quatipuru-Pará, participated in the interview. The results indicate that the fishermen's knowledge was developed based on the needs to develop their daily activities and the need to search for food for their families. The interviewees have a low level of education, so the answers to the questionnaire were acquired in response to the curiosities that arose, involving their life history, as well as the knowledge passed down from father to son, indicating the importance of strengthening and bringing such knowledge of common sense closer to scientific knowledge. In addition, the results also indicate that there is other knowledge and practices distinct from fishing, and this learning was acquired through contact with the oldest. Ethnomathematics is a trend in Mathematics Education, as highlighted by D’Ambrósio (2011), and is practiced by various cultural groups that develop and use Mathematics in their daily lives. It encompasses rural and urban communities, workers, professionals, children of a certain age group, indigenous peoples, fishermen, and other groups that are included due to the objectives of common traditions. Ethnomathematics is an approach that focuses on exploring the ideas, traditions, and mathematical practices of a specific social group. Therefore, this research sought to give visibility to the fishermen of Novo Umirinzal-Pará, through the mathematical knowledge and practices used when making their fishing instruments, and to show the importance that these instruments have for their lives, both in the social, cultural, and economic areas, in addition to the arts and ways of doing mathematics.
