This process significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. With increasing demands for emission reductions, sustainable alternatives such as Tecnored have gained prominence. This study compared the traditional blast furnace iron production process with the Tecnored technology, considering environmental, operational, and economic aspects. An integrative literature review was conducted, analyzing studies from databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, Science Direct, and acadêmico, focusing on the environmental implications of each process. The analysis showed that, despite the blast furnace’s efficiency in large-scale production, it remains a major CO₂ emitter. In contrast, Tecnored stands out for its ability to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 50%, using biomass and industrial waste as substitutes for coke, and it is more flexible with lower infrastructure requirements, making it a viable option for new installations. This study emphasizes the need for the adoption of low-carbon technologies, such as Tecnored, for the steel industry to meet global decarbonization and sustainability goals.
