From these statements, a retrospective and transverse study was created by means of HIV patients records analysis from a reference center for acquired diseases study. 254 records were consulted, 144 of which having the conditions to be part of the research. 29.9% of the cases demonstrated some neurological affection, in which included opportunity diseases (49% neurotoxoplasmosis, citomegalovirose 7%, cryptococcal meningitis and 4% tuberculous meningitis 4%), neuropathy (14%) or just neurological symptoms with no diagnoses defined (22%). Emotional and behavior symptoms were present at 63% of the cases, just like cognitive symptoms (35%). The variable sex did not set out relevant discrepancies with regard to the CNS symptoms appearance (56.8% were male, while 43.2% female). The affection was more commonly found among the middle age males, so that the neurotoxoplasmosis occurred in patients of different ages, from kids up to elders without age prevalence. The use of antiretroviral therapy did not sign as being a protector factor against CNS, since the incidence in patients with regular medication was high, apart from being included in those which CD4 counting was above 400/mm3.Acesso AbertoHIVAIDSComprometimento neurológicoTerapia antirretroviralNeurological complicationsAntiretroviral therapyCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::MEDICINAComprometimento neurológico em pacientes HIV positivos em centro de referência na cidade de Belém - Pa, no período de janeiro a dezembro de 2006Trabalho de Curso - Graduação - Monografia
