Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10137The existing evidence suggests that the ideal dental occlusion allows greater sports performance for athletes. However, it is still not clear how the state of dental occlusion, maily affects sports performance. Thus, the objective of this study was to verify, from a systematic literature review, the association between the ideal dental occlusion and the performance of healthy athletes. Thus, research was carried out in the electronic 7 databases PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, LILACS, OpenGrey and Google Schoolar, no restrictions on the date of publication and language. Studies with athletes (Participants - P) were included to investigate ideal occlusion parameters (Intervention - I) or not (Comparison - C), in order to assess the influence of dental occlusion on sports performance (Outcome - O). All stages followed the PRISMA protocol. To assess the quality/risk of bias in the study selection, The Cochrane Collaboration's tools for randomized studies and Robins-tool for nonrandomized studies (ROBINS-I) were performed. The Grading of recommendations, assessment, development and evaluation (GRADE) was used to assess the level of evidence. The search resulted in 272 references, among which 5 clinical studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in this systematic review. It was observed that 4 studies were of the non-randomized clinical and one randomized clinical. In qualitative analyzes, the studies were classified as having a moderate risk of bias. A very low level of evidence was found among studies taken together. Although most results of studies suggest that the intervention seeking favorable occlusion parameters is beneficial for sports performance, the evidence in general is inconsistent and inaccurate. More randomized controlled clinical study with sample size appropriate and standardization of occlusal interventions and measurements of sports performance should be carried out.Acesso AbertoAtletasDesempenho esportivoHumanosOclusão dentáriaHumansDental occlusionAthletesAthletic performanceCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ODONTOLOGIAOclusão dentária e performance esportiva: uma revisão sistemáticaTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - ArtigoAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
