Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9757The main means of communication in Brazil is still open television, present in 91% of Brazilian homes. Corporate media have the power to set the public agenda. Police television news specialized in crime and violence news are among the programs with the highest audience, giving hyper-visibility to crimes and offenses linked to the "war on drugs". The hypothesis of this work is that this media phenomenon promotes an ideology of criminalization of the periphery and its residents, through the classification, hierarchization and stigmatization of their bodies and territories and that there would be an association between the frequency with which they watch police television news and adherence to their authoritarian and punitive narratives. The research was carried out with a qualitative and quantitative approach A total of 40 reports from the police news program Balanço Geral-PA, shown on TV Record Belém between March and June 2020, were watched, transcribed and qualitatively analyzed. applied with residents of the metropolitan region of Belém, with the final sample end of 178 participants. From the quantification of the level of agreement with certain statements, two indices were built that measured the level of fear and the level of propensity to authoritarian positions among the sample members. The final sample included 31 respondents who were considered viewers of police newspapers because they answered that they watch such programs “many times a week”. The results indicate that among those assiduous viewers, agreement with authoritative statements is much higher than among those who do not watch. It is concluded that the narratives about the violence evidenced in the television news contribute to the propagation of authoritarianism and punitivism among viewers, which in turn, allow public opinion to support public security policies that attack Human Rights and threaten democracy.Acesso AbertoTelejornal PolicialCriminalizaçãoRacismoAutoritarismoPolice TV NewsCriminalizationRacismAuthoritarianismCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::SOCIOLOGIATelejornal policial: forjando as imagens do corpo-alvo da criminalização e do extermínioTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - MonografiaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
