Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9994This article discusses aging and memory based on an ethnographic experience with participant observation in a Long-Term Care Facility for the Elderly in Belém. The methodology combined bibliographic research and recording of activities carried out during five meetings with the participation of 30 elderly residents. The analysis indicates that these facilities exert control over the lives of residents by imposing routines and restricting access to spaces, limiting the freedom of both the elderly and their visitors.
