Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/6092The rain storms that commonly form in different regions of Brazil register a high rate of atmospheric discharges; these discharges, most of the time, depart from the clouds towards the Earth. Consequently, these phenomena can generate numerous risk situations, which can cause damage to life, physical damage to structures and failures in the operation of sensitive electrical systems. Although lightning strikes are natural and unpredictable phenomena, there is a way (within regulatory standards) to identify possible risk situations and apply appropriate protection measures, such as the Atmospheric Discharge Protection System (SPDA), which aims to intercept atmospheric discharges, conduct them to Earth and dissipate them in the soil, nullifying or considerably reducing their impacts. The preliminary analysis stage that precedes the SPDA project is called risk management and is characterized as a statistical/probabilistic study, which aims to identify and quantify probable losses of human lives, services to the public or property. The purpose of this work is to analyze the risk of loss of human life in two buildings located in São Miguel do Guamá-PA, in order to verify if there is a need to apply SDPA in these structures. Both buildings have similarities in risk management, but their respective results differ when compared.
